A downloadable game

This game was created as a team effort with the Neon Badger Games team that was formed for the DES101 module at Abertay University in 2022.

ABOUT THE GAME

Working with the theme of "Dark", Picking Up The Pieces is a multiplayer board game combining the creativity of constructing a Lego spacecraft with the thrill of navigating a spiral board alongside friends and family. Taking it in turns, a player will roll a die to navigate the layers of space, picking up the pieces that they need to build a functional spacecraft and outrun the gravitational pull of the black hole!

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

1 x Spiral board
1 x Die

127 pieces Lego total:
12 x blue
12 x yellow
12 x orange
6 x grey
24 x white
24 x red
24 x clear
12 x special
1 x hyperdrive piece

Void Deck - 30 cards

THE RULES

Each player starts at the most outward space. Based on the result of a dice roll, the players moves their piece, a Lego steering wheel, the corresponding number of spaces on the board.

Each space is marked with a different, colour, inviting the player to pick up a card or certain colour of Lego piece.

In addition to the coloured spaces, there are two additional special spaces:

Rainbow Space - This is a space where, should they land on it, the player can pick a piece they need of any colour (non-special) to add to their spacecraft.

Card Space - When landed on this space, the player must pick up a card from the included deck. These cards have varying effects, from stealing other player’s pieces to being mugged by a neon space badger.

BUILDING YOUR SPACESHIP

In addition to the playing cards that all players draw from, every player is equipped with handy ship-building instructions. Except… well. They don’t actually tell you how to build the spacecraft, only what you will need and how it should look from different angles. The collectable Lego pieces are scattered across the board outside of the spiral, floating through space until picked up.

END GAME

If the player reaches the centre without fully constructing their spacecraft, they will be sucked into the blackhole and eliminated from the game.

If the player obtains all necessary components of the spacecraft, they must first reach the centre of the blackhole and take the singular hyperdrive piece  before escaping. All other ships now have no hope of survival as the hyperdrive is needed to travel fast enough to escape the black hole!
