Hooley Fish

A Collaborative Craft Experience

Fish Mural (or Hooley Fish) is a hands-on, drop-in activity created for the 2025 Dundee Hooley, where visitors can contribute to a large fish-shaped mural made from individual paper “scales.”

Participants decorate a hand-shaped scale using the provided materials and attach it to the artwork, gradually building up a layered surface made from many small contributions.

As more people contribute, the mural changes throughout the afternoon, forming a collective piece shaped by the range of individuals who take part. It will be retained for future Dundee Hooley events, continuing to develop or be reimagined over time.

The project was developed by our student team at Abertay University and selected by Dundee City Council as one of six student teams to showcase their work at the event. The activity is designed to be simple, accessible, and welcoming, offering a relaxed way for people to take part in a shared creative outcome without needing experience or committing a lot of time.
